Once you run a blog, you will develop 2 kinds of flavor’s
Design and Functionality, where Design is almost a matter to the theme used
A travel Blog has pretty specific need regarding functionality, since you probably want to “bundle” each travel almost automatically and create a stunning homepage that lets visitor easily access each travel. This blog runs on the theme “Astra”. Below are plugins, that have proven to help much.
Plugin | Purpose / Rationale |
---|---|
Visual Portfolio | Allows to create a “portfolio”-page that “bundles” various so called “project-pages” (in this blog travels). These pages make use of the Astra post grid block. |
Astra (Gutenberg editor enhancements) | The post grid block allows to create a grid that nicely displays post from selectable categories |
Filebird | Helps to organize the media library |
Media Trash Button | Whereas you can restore (accidentally) deleted posts and pages, you cannot with media files. Once you have added define( 'MEDIA_TRASH', true ); to the wp-config.php file, this plugin ads a “restore trash” button to the media lib.Recipe >>> here. |
Google Site Kit, WP Consent API and Complianze | These plugins allow GDPR compliant analytics at ease w/o the need for the pretty “aggressive” JetPack plugin |
Link Checker | Nice to avoid broken links, specifically for outbound links |
WP Optimize | Allows various technical optimizations. ‼️If you use the Astra post grid block, you must disable “page caching” otherwise the grid will not show newly created posts. Page caching must also be disabled, if you want to use the “Print my Blog” plug-in. |
WP Staging | Allows to create a staging system where external support can fix issue w/o touching the life site. Also allows to create compact backups manually |
UpdraftPlus | Allows regular back-ups, if you host your blog own your own server |
TablePress | Easily import itineraries from Excel |
Temporary Login Without Password | Allows pretty secure access to external developers |
